We Were Always Here. Now We Have a Magazine.
The story of Blooming Sheila, where it came from, what it stands for, and who it is built for.
OUR STORY
African women have always told stories. Around fires, across kitchen tables, through the patterns in our fabric and the recipes passed down without measurements. We have always known how to document life, but it wasn't always called journalism.
Blooming Sheila was born from a simple but urgent conviction: that African women deserve a magazine that takes them seriously. A platform that tells true African story...the African way. Not a publication that speaks about us in careful, measured tones for an outside audience. Not a platform that treats African culture as exotic, or African women's achievements as surprising. A magazine that sits down with African women the way a trusted friend does, with familiarity, with honesty, and with the kind of pride that needs no justification.
We launched as a platform in 2024, but now we are bringing the magazine to life in 2026 from Nigeria, with a Pan-African scope and a commitment to stories that travel, across the continent, into the diaspora, and across generations. Our maiden edition is the beginning of a much longer conversation, and we intend to keep it going for a very long time.

Our Mission
To create a premium Pan-African platform where African women's stories are told with depth, dignity, and cultural accuracy, and where every reader finds something of herself on the page.
Our Vision
A world where African women's contributions to culture, economy, history, and community are documented, celebrated, and preserved in their own words, through their own lens.
Our Values
We do not see Africa through the narrow window of one country or one culture. From Lagos to Nairobi, from Accra to Dakar, from Johannesburg to the diaspora communities of London and Atlanta, Blooming Sheila covers African women wherever they are building, creating, and leading.
We believe the most powerful stories are the ones told without modification for an outside gaze. Our writers write for African women first, and trust that the rest of the world is capable of keeping up.
Our history, our languages, our textiles, our foods, our music, our spiritual practices, these are not relics. They are living, evolving expressions of who we are, and Blooming Sheila treats them with the seriousness they deserve.
We cover African women in business, in finance, in entrepreneurship, and in informal economies, because we know that financial independence is one of the most transformative things a woman can build.
Every editorial decision we make is shaped by the women who read this magazine. We are not building an audience. We are cultivating a community.
We believe in the thread that connects our grandmothers' knowledge to our daughters' futures. Blooming Sheila honours that thread in every edition.
